I will describe very briefly the configuration of one of the most popular free newsreaders for example connection with Giganews european server. Giganews is on the market for a long time and sets new standards, which try to adapt other providers. Giganews has a farm of servers in the U.S., Europe and Hong Kong. The company gives us 14 days Trial with 10GB limit.

1. Select Usenet provider and select the appropriate plan.

2. Download GrabIt.

3. Start the installation by running the downloaded file GrabIt172b4.exe (name depends on version). When you run the configurator window appears that will guide you through the configuration of the newsreader.

W artykule o ściąganiu binariów z Usenetu napisałem o stronach indeksujących potrzebnych do wyszukiwania plików NZB. Teraz troszkę więcej o tym bardzo przydatnym i oszczędzającym czas narzędziu.
NZB jest formatem pliku opartym na XML-u umożliwiającym pobieranie wiadomości z serwerów Usenetu. NZB daje możliwość szybszego i sprawniejszego wyszukiwania danych i nie wymaga ściągania nagłówków wiadomości. Osiągamy to dzięki stronom internetowym tworzącym nam wynikowe pliki NZB z tego co chcemy ściągnąć. Pliki otwieramy potem za pomocą czytnika grup dyskusyjnych i ściągamy z Usenetu mając wcześniej odpowiednio skonfigurowany wspomniany już czytnik grup dyskusyjnych do połączenia z wybranym dostawca Usenetu.
Technicznie wygląda to tak, ze każda wiadomość w Usenecie ma swój identyfikator. Kiedy duży plik zostaje wysłany do serwera grup dyskusyjnych to zwykle jest on dzielony na wiele mniejszych wiadomości z odrębnymi identyfikatorami. NZB umożliwia czytnikowi grup dyskusyjnych odczytanie identyfikatorów z pliku NZB, ściągnięcie ich i zdekodowanie wiadomości w plik binarny używając zwykle formatu yEnc.

Aby rozpocząć naszą przygodę z Usenetem należy poczynić trzy główne kroki:

1. Wybrać providera Usenetu.
2. Skonfigurować czytnik grup dyskusyjnych.
3. Znaleźć i ściągnąć interesujące nas pliki.
